Eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa can be successfully treated with hypnotherapy. Over recent years, the number of deaths caused by Anorexia has been reduced from 21% to as low as 5%.
Anorexia is rooted in a distorted belief system, arising from poor self image, usually in girls and young woman, but sometimes in men for whom physical appearance is of upper most importance.
More prevalent in young girls raised in white upper-class families, where there is a greater pressure to be successful, an unbroken cycle of Anorexia can result in multiorgan failure or even heart attack. In those cases where a successful outcome is reached, damage to the body is such that a woman may never be able to have her own biological child.
75% of Bulimic sufferers experience depression and find relief in binge eating followed by purging. They are overwhelmed by mounting everyday tasks, and seek emotional solace in eating large quantities of food in a short time. Guilt and revulsion overcomes them and they induce vomiting. This causes damage to the esophagus and the digestive tract which is constantly bathed in stomach acid and if perforates, causes instant death.
Over time hypnotherapy, incorporating techniques such as Paris Window, Corrective Therapy and Desensitization can break associations and alter the client’s view of themselves and their relationship with food, equipping them with new coping skills and positive reinforcement of self love and self appreciation.
